Is Cerakote really durable? |
Absolutely. It won't chip, flake or scratch off. Tests have shown it more durable than traditional bluing, parkerizing or other finishes. It goes on ultra-thin, and you can still read logos, serial numbers, etc stamped into the gun. Here is a great video Cerakote made that is worth a thousand words.

Will Cerakote restore the finish of an old gun? |
Sure will. It makes an old tattered guns look amazing, and prevents any further deterioration. Cerakote won't restore metal that is pitted to a smooth finish, but with proper application, it will adhere fully and dramatically improve the appearance while stopping rust in its tracks for good. As it is more durable than most other finishes, it will only improve the resilience of a cleaner model.

How is my gun prepared for Cerakoting? |
First it must be fully disassembled--every spring, pin & lever. Next, all parts to be coated are soaked in a degreaser and then heated to draw oil and impurities out of the pores of the metal. This process is then repeated, as many times as necessary completely remove all contaminants. Then, they are sandblasted down to bare metal. Finally, they are hand sprayed with the Cerakote, and heat cured for several hours. Poof, done.
|
How long does Cerakoting take? |
Short answer: About 2 weeks from the time it is started for most projects. For complex patterns, allow 30 days from the time it is started. Here's the rub: we generally have a Cerakote backlog, so it may not be started right away. If you want to minimize the time it is here, please contact us for current timing. We can set an appointment and put you in to the schedule for the next available slot. This way you hold your place in the line, but keep your firearm at home until we are ready to give it our full attention.
|
Do you have color samples? |
Yes, we have actual painted samples of many colors we have used to date, about 50 of them. We also have the Cerakote sample rings in the store with the other hundred colors. We have also found the online color swatches to be fairly accurate.
|
Is the finish guaranteed? |
We guarantee our work. We test each piece before it leaves, and if problems develop for any reason, we will re-do it. Understand that while Cerakote will hold up to hard use, it is not magic. You will see wear over time in the same places that you would see wear on any firearm finish--on moving parts (e.g. slide to frame,) holster wear, etc.
|
Will it change the function of my gun in any way? |
Nope, not at all. One point to note is that while the Cerakote is a very thin layer, moving parts in tight tolerance may "stick" a little until they are worked a bit. If we re-assemble the firearm in the shop, we do this as part of our process. If you re-assemble it at home, your best bet is to put a box or two of rounds through it to break all the parts back in. Of course, if that doesn't do the trick, give us a call or bring it back in and we'll happily make it right..
|
How do I care for my firearm? |
The same way you did before it was Cerakoted. It requires no special care.
