Illinois "Assault Weapons" Ban Now In Effect

The finalized bill was signed by Gov. Pritzker last night, and is now in effect. Below are a few of the "final answers." More thorough cheat sheet to come, but for now, the full text of the final bill can be found here. On the bright side, language was added so we can return customer's own property to them. From the Illinois State Police:

Assault Weapons Ban 
o Immediately ends the manufacture, delivery, sale, import, and purchase of assault weapons
o Allows possession and legal use of existing assault weapons by a person who possessed them before the effective date, so long as the weapon is endorsed with ISP by January 1, 2024
▪ Beginning January 1, 2024, an endorsed weapon may only be transferred in limited situations, one being a federal firearms licensed dealer
 
Large Capacity Magazines Ban (LCM)
o Immediately bans the manufacture, delivery, sale, or purchase of large capacity magazines.
▪ More than 10 round magazine for long guns
▪ More than 15 round magazine for handguns
o 90-days after effective date, possession is prohibited unless the person possessed the device prior to the effective date. Possession is only allowed on private property, on the premises of a FFL for repair, while on a firing range or sport shooting competition venue, or while traveling to or from such locations. 
 
Rapid-fire Devices Ban
o Immediately bans devices that increase the rate of fire of a semiautomatic firearm.

What is an "Assault Weapon?"
RIFLES
Any semi auto center fire rifle that can accept a detachable magazine (regardless of capacity) and 1 of the following:
• Folding/Telescoping/Pistol Grip/Thumbhole stock 
• Forward pistol grip
• Flash hider / threaded barrel
• Grenade launcher / flare launcher
Also any semi auto center fire rifle with a fixed mag that can hold more than 10 rounds
PISTOLS
Any semi auto center fire pistol that can accept a detachable magazine (regardless of capacity) and 1 of the following:
• Accept a detachable magazine outside of the pistol grip
• Has a shroud that encircles the barrel (partially or completely)
• Threaded barrel
• Second pistol grip
Also any semi auto center fire with a fixed mag that can accept more than 15 rounds.
SHOTGUNS
Any semi-auto shotgun that has ANY of  following:
• Folding/Telescoping/Pistol Grip/Thumbhole stock
• Can accept a detachable magazine
• Has a revolving cylinder
• Has a fixed mag that can accept more than 5 rounds
